Easter. What comes to mind when you hear the word Easter? The Easter Bunny? Jelly beans and chocolate rabbits? This is the week that we celebrate Good Friday. Have you ever wondered about the name, Good Friday? Does it not seem at least somewhat paradoxical to call the day on which Jesus died Good Friday? Suppose, for a moment, you imagine the death of the person who is your dearest friend here on earth, and let’s say your dearest friend died a horrible death on a Friday. I think it is wise to remind you every now and then that the chapter breaks are not inspired… many times they are helpful, but sometimes they hinder us from making a connection with what has happened in the previous chapter… and such is the case today. In chapter 3 Jesus was baptized. Immediately after the account of Jesus’ baptism, Dr. Luke then gave us a lengthy genealogy where he traced Jesus’ lineage through Mary back to Adam. In chapter 4 Dr. Luke is going to give us the details of Jesus’ wilderness temptations.
