Two weeks ago we saw that Jesus was asleep in the boat when His disciples woke Him crying out, “Master, Master we are perishing.” As you know, Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves and then He rebuked His disciples. Where is your faith? Today we will see again that faith is the agent that allows people to lay hold of the heart of God.

Jesus is Lord… He is God manifest in the flesh. In our text today we will see an example of the power Jesus has at His disposal because He is God manifest in the flesh, and in the big picture this magnifies to the nth degree the humility of our Lord and Savior, because of His refusal to use that power to defend Himself against His enemies when He was crucified.

The year was 1970. Pixi and I had been married about 3 months when we went deep sea fishing with my brother Jay and his wife Ruth off the Jersey coast. By the way this was Pixi’s first-ever experience at deep sea fishing. My parents had taken me out several times growing up… my Dad didn’t have a boat, but he had several friends who did, and I had a love-hate relationship with the sport. On the one hand I loved the adventure and excitement of it, but on the other hand I don’t think I ever went out deep sea fishing w/o getting sea sick… I kept thinking I would outgrow that problem, but I never did until this fishing excursion.

For those of you who are married I have a question… have you ever been reading the paper or watching the TV and grunted an “Uh Huh” when your spouse was talking to you and you didn’t have a clue what he/she had just said? Sure you have. One day a certain husband turned off the TV, looked directly into his wife’s eyes and gave her his undivided attention while she was talking. “Stop it,” she snapped, “You are deliberately listening just to confuse me ☺”
